Coping with Being in Your Twenties

Just recently, I sat down with one of my closest friends, Raina, to film for our YouTube channel. The topic was on being in your twenties and how to handle all that comes with it. We made some similar points about the issue and could relate to the emotions that come along with being in your twenties. It was nice to know I wasn’t the only one going through these feelings and the more I think about it, everyone around is going through the same feelings, as well. In my experience so far, I want to offer some tips on how to deal with this awkward stage in life.

Being in your twenties can be confusing, frustrating, and exciting at the same time. Being hard on yourself is something you can easily fall into during this time. Whether you know what you’re doing with your life or not, there is constant pressure to have everything figured out. But in all honesty, you don’t need to have everything figured out. Now don’t get me wrong, I still have those days when I feel like I’m not doing anything to prepare myself for my future, but the number one thing I always try to remember is to not be hard on myself.

Another thing to keep in mind is to set small goals for yourself and to stick to them. We all have goals, but sometimes our goals can be overwhelming. Setting small goals for yourself is a good way to work toward the larger goals you wish to achieve. Also setting goals keeps you on track and helps you stay focused. When you achieve a goal no matter how small it may be, you’ll feel accomplished.

Through all of this, staying positive is extremely important. There are a lot of things that can happen during this stage in life. This can easily lead you to think negative thoughts and positivity is the best way to tackle those feelings. Another way to stay positive is focusing on the things you do have going for yourself. Focusing on what you’re not doing will always cause stress. By looking at the things you’re doing, you’ll be able to see you’re on the right track.

One thing I find myself telling people around me is to go with the flow. Don’t sweat the small stuff and just know everything will work itself out. Most of the time, we’re hard on ourselves because we feel like we’re supposed to have everything together, which isn’t true. It’s important to keep in mind these years are our learning years. We’re all trying to get our stuff together so you’re not alone. Being in your twenties is hard and every once and awhile you may find yourself in a dark place, but keeping your goals in mind and knowing you’ll achieve them is the most important. Your twenties are all about experiencing new things, so don’t stress and learn to enjoy yourself.
