Last November, our forever First Lady, Michelle Obama released her memoir entitled Becoming. Since then, she's landed a spot on the New York Times Best Sellers list, along with selling out live shows across the country. This is expected as she played an extremely important role in our country for eight years.
Like any other memoir, Michelle speaks on her early years as a child and all the experiences that shaped who she is today. She speaks about always being a perfectionist and being hard on herself (something I can relate to). She also spoke about all the pressures and stresses that came with being the first lady.
What made her book stand out from the rest is that she was the first and only black First Lady of the United States. So many black women, including myself, could relate to the First Lady in a way we never could before. Her experience is so unique because no one else has been through what she has.
To describe Becoming as inspiring and motivating would be an understatement. Reading this book not only confirmed my assumptions about Michelle Obama but also gave me more insight into who she is. Becoming should be on everyone's bookshelf. If you haven't gotten around to reading it yet, do yourself a favor and get it.
